Driving a private hire car in Albacete: the crossroads between Madrid, the east coast and Andalusia, the Los Llanos high-speed station, the Alicante and Valencia airports, and how each job arrives and is paid

Albacete is the only Castilla-La Mancha province where the reference airport is not Barajas: from the capital and La Manchuela, Valencia pays off; from the Almansa corridor and the Campos de Hellín, Alicante; and Madrid only for those flying from there. The rest of the work is the connections with the Albacete-Los Llanos high-speed station from the towns, the appointments at the General Hospital and at the Hellín, Almansa and Villarrobledo hospitals, and the September fair, which packs more jobs into ten days than any other time of year. Each job reaches your phone agreed with the customer and you accept or decline; on Monday the weekly settlement arrives. Albacete to Alicante airport is 175 km; to Valencia airport, 163 km.

What makes Albacete different for a driver?

It looks three ways at once. Albacete sits where the A-31 to Alicante, the A-30 to Murcia, the A-32 to Andalusia and the high-speed line to Madrid and Valencia cross, and that spreads the demand in a way Toledo and Guadalajara do not see. From the capital, Valencia and its Manises airport are a little over two hours away along the A-3 or the A-31 and A-35; from Almansa and Caudete, Alicante and its El Altet airport are closer than Madrid; from Hellín and Tobarra, Murcia and the Región de Murcia airport also come into the picture. Barajas is for those whose flight is already there, and it is a trip of over three hours that takes the whole day.

The second leg is the high-speed line: Albacete-Los Llanos station puts Madrid an hour and a half away and Valencia under an hour, and the towns without high-speed rail — Hellín, Almansa, Villarrobledo, La Roda, Tarazona, Casas Ibáñez — reach it by car for a train time. The third is the hospitals: Albacete's General, the referral centre for the whole province, and the district hospitals of Hellín, Almansa and Villarrobledo, with referrals to the capital. And the fourth is the Albacete fair, from 7 to 17 September, with the fairground closed to traffic and jobs from every town until the small hours. The route pages publish trips from eleven origins in the province to the high-speed station, the three airports, the four hospitals, the fairground, Madrid and the east coast.

What figures do the typical jobs carry?

Those of the route engine, which the customer sees before booking and the driver is paid. The high-speed connections are medium-length: Hellín to Los Llanos station, 64 km and about 50 min, from 91,25 €; La Roda to the station, 43 km; Almansa to the station, 73 km. The airport ones are long: Albacete to Alicante, 175 km and about 139 min, from 226,00 €; Albacete to Valencia, 163 km from 209,92 €; Almansa to Alicante, 104 km. And the hospital is short from the capital and medium from the towns: Villarrobledo to Albacete's General Hospital, 85 km.

An airport job from Albacete takes half a day there and back, and you accept it when you can return with another job or the customer has booked a round trip; the high-speed connections and the hospital runs with a wait are what fill the day in the capital. Nobody promises how many jobs there will be in a week in Hellín: what there is is a price known before you set off and a settlement that reconciles trip by trip.

How does a job reach your phone, and what are the rules?

The customer books on the website or in the app with pickup, destination, date and time and sees a fixed price before confirming; the job appears in the driver app with all the details and the amount, and you accept or decline with no penalty. If the operator has bidding on, you can propose a price for open jobs. Once accepted, the app navigates to the pickup, tracks the trip states and generates the trip sheet before departure. At Los Llanos station and at the airports the pickup is always a customer with a booking, with their train or flight on the job, and the app follows delays; you cannot wait at the taxi rank or offer the car to people coming out.

During the fair the fairground is closed to traffic and the job carries the pickup point outside the closure that the town hall's traffic plan allows; the price is the one fixed at booking and does not rise because it is fair week. Non-payment is not the driver's risk: if the customer does not show or the card fails, the job performed is still settled, and late cancellations are paid under the published policy.

What paperwork is needed, and how do you get paid?

A valid driving licence and, with your own vehicle, the VTC authorisation in the holder's name, insurance covering passengers, the roadworthiness test and the registration document; everything is checked before the first job and the platform warns of expiry dates. Castilla-La Mancha does not require a regional VTC driver certificate; the trip sheet and the filing with the Ministry's services register are compulsory before every job and the platform generates them. Jobs ending in Alicante, Valencia or Murcia are legal under a Castilla-La Mancha authorisation because the origin is in the province; what does not fit is stationing the car to pick up jobs originating in another region beyond the share the ROTT allows, and the Valencian Community additionally requires its own register from anyone operating with origin there.

Every Monday the weekly settlement arrives with every job, the commission deducted trip by trip and the tips, which go entirely to the driver; cash collected on board is already yours and is deducted from what is paid. With a company car, payroll or a weekly self-billing invoice; with your own authorisation, the customer pays into the driver's Stripe Connect account and the published commission — 15% of each job — is settled automatically. The application is sent from the drivers page or from the app, stating the area — the capital, Hellín, Almansa, Villarrobledo — and whether you bring a vehicle.

Frequently asked questions

Which airport gets the most trips from Albacete?

It depends on the district: Valencia from the capital and La Manchuela, Alicante from the Almansa corridor and the Campos de Hellín, Murcia from Hellín and Tobarra, and Barajas only for those flying from there. Albacete to Alicante is 175 km; Albacete to Valencia, 163 km.

Can you pick someone up at Los Llanos station without a booking?

No. A VTC only performs pre-booked services; at the station the pickup is a customer with a booking and their train on the job. Waiting at the taxi rank or soliciting on the platform is prohibited.

Does the price go up during the Albacete fair?

No. The price is calculated by the engine from kilometres and time and fixed at booking; there is no fair surcharge. What changes is the pickup point, outside the fairground closed to traffic.

What if the customer pays in cash?

That money is already the driver's and is deducted from Monday's settlement; it is never claimed separately. Tips go entirely to the driver with no commission.
