See La Roda →Albacete province is the corner of Castilla-La Mancha that faces the Mediterranean. The capital, on the plain, holds the reference hospital, the high-speed station and the September fair; around it, Villarrobledo and La Roda are La Mancha, Almansa and Caudete look towards Valencia and Alicante, Hellín towards Murcia, and the southern mountains and the Júcar gorge are weekend-trip destinations. For flights, the coast is closer than Barajas.
The capital and its immediate surroundings, with Chinchilla de Monte-Aragón and its castle close by, hold a large share of the province's population. The General Hospital, Albacete-Los Llanos station, the airport and the fairground are all here, so Albacete is both the starting point and the destination of most trips.
North of the capital, La Roda, Tarazona de la Mancha and Madrigueras are farming towns near the Júcar. La Roda sits on the A-31 and has a conventional railway station; for the hospital and the AVE they all look to Albacete.
The Albacete part of La Manchuela, with Casas-Ibáñez as its main town, is vineyard country between La Mancha and Valencia province, cut by the Júcar gorge where Alcalá del Júcar sits. The villages are small and far from the capital, and public transport to Albacete is scarce.
Villarrobledo, at the north-western tip of the province, is a town of wine and clay vats that deals as much with Albacete as with Tomelloso and Socuéllamos over the border in Ciudad Real. It has its own hospital and railway station, and its carnival and festivals draw visitors from outside.
Almansa and Caudete form the eastern tip of the province, on the natural route towards Valencia and Alicante. Almansa is an industrial footwear town, with its castle on the rock and its own hospital; Caudete, right next to Villena, looks as much towards Alicante as towards Albacete.
Hellín and Tobarra, in the south of the province, are a land of esparto grass, irrigated farmland and a drum-filled Holy Week. Hellín has a hospital and is the gateway to the Sierra del Segura, and because it sits on the A-30 many trips head as much towards Albacete as towards Murcia.
Places where a car with a driver beats driving yourself: because of the timetable, the parking or because nobody wants to drive back.
Estación Sur is the long-distance coach hub for half of Spain, in Méndez Álvaro, away from the centre. With luggage, a seven o'clock connection or a night arrival, a door-to-door transfer pays for itself.

Albacete is the Castilla-La Mancha province with most airports nearby, and none of them is its own, because Los Llanos has barely any commercial flights. From the capital, Alicante-Elche is {{ruta:albacete-a-aeropuerto-alicante:km}} along the A-31, about {{ruta:albacete-a-aeropuerto-alicante:min}}; Valencia-Manises {{ruta:albacete-a-aeropuerto-valencia:km}} via the A-35 and A-3; Región de Murcia airport, at Corvera, {{ruta:albacete-a-aeropuerto-region-de-murcia:km}} along the A-30; and Barajas {{ruta:albacete-a-aeropuerto-madrid-barajas:km}}, the farthest but the one with intercontinental flights. From Almansa or Caudete, Alicante and Valencia are much closer than the capital; from Hellín, Murcia; from Villarrobledo, Madrid may pay off. The AVE reaches Madrid and Alicante but no terminal, so for pre-dawn flights or with luggage the transfer with a driver, from {{ruta:albacete-a-aeropuerto-alicante:precio}} to Alicante, is what gets you to the door at any hour.
High-speed rail in Albacete province stops only in the capital: Albacete-Los Llanos station is on the Madrid–Levante line, with AVE and Avant to Madrid in around an hour and a half, to Alicante in just over an hour and to Valencia in under an hour, plus conventional trains towards Alcázar de San Juan and Cartagena. From the rest of the province, catching the first morning train depends on a car, because village buses do not leave that early: from Hellín it is {{ruta:hellin-a-estacion-ave-albacete:km}} along the A-30, from Almansa {{ruta:almansa-a-estacion-ave-albacete:km}} along the A-31, from Villarrobledo {{ruta:villarrobledo-a-estacion-ave-albacete:km}} and from La Roda {{ruta:la-roda-a-estacion-ave-albacete:km}}. The transfer is booked with the train number or time and the driver works out the pickup to reach the access check in good time; from La Roda, from {{ruta:la-roda-a-estacion-ave-albacete:precio}}.
The Albacete Fair, from 7 to 17 September, is of international tourist interest and fills the city for ten days in a row with people from across the province. The fairground is in the west of the city at the end of Paseo de la Feria, and during those days the streets around it close to traffic: nobody can be dropped or picked up at the gate, only at the designated points on the surrounding avenues. By day you get there by train and bus, but returns to the villages bunch up in the small hours, when there is nothing left: from the fairground to Hellín it is {{ruta:hellin-a-recinto-ferial-albacete:km}}, to Almansa {{ruta:almansa-a-recinto-ferial-albacete:km}}, to Villarrobledo {{ruta:villarrobledo-a-recinto-ferial-albacete:km}} and to La Roda {{ruta:la-roda-a-recinto-ferial-albacete:km}}. Alcalá del Júcar looks over the river gorge with houses and caves carved into the rock below its castle, {{ruta:albacete-a-alcala-del-jucar:km}} from Albacete; the source of the river Mundo, Los Chorros, cascades out of a cave in the Calar del Mundo near Riópar, {{ruta:albacete-a-nacimiento-del-rio-mundo:km}} from the capital along Sierra de Alcaraz roads. No regular bus line reaches either in a way that allows a day visit, in Alcalá parking fills up early in season and at the river Mundo the viewpoint is reached on foot. The province page says it: agree the return time when booking, because there are no taxis or buses there to sort it out on the spot. Albacete province has four SESCAM public hospitals: Albacete General University Hospital, the reference for the whole province and with specialities found nowhere else in it, and the area hospitals of Hellín, Almansa and Villarrobledo. The morning bus arrives after the nine o'clock appointment has passed, and appointments and tests can take up much of the day. Albacete is the only Castilla-La Mancha province where the reference airport is not Barajas: from the capital and La Manchuela, Valencia pays off; from the Almansa corridor and the Campos de Hellín, Alicante; and Madrid only for those flying from there. The rest of the work is the connections with the Albacete-Los Llanos high-speed station from the towns, the appointments at the General Hospital and at the Hellín, Almansa and Villarrobledo hospitals, and the September fair, which packs more jobs into ten days than any other time of year. A Spanish private hire vehicle may only carry out pre-booked services: it cannot pick up passengers in the street or wait at ranks. That is why everything goes through advance booking, with the price fixed before the trip and the service paperwork issued beforehand.

A Spanish private hire authorisation covers intercity transport, while urban trips — those starting and ending in the same town — are reserved for taxis unless a licence covers them.
