Madrid from Albacete: IFEMA, Parque Warner, concerts and matches, the Estación Sur and the hospitals
From Albacete you reach Madrid by AVE from Los Llanos station or by road, along the A-31 and the A-3, which enters the city from the east. IFEMA is about 175 min from Albacete city, with transfers from 307,73 €, and the Estación Sur at Méndez Álvaro, where the scheduled bus arrives, is 253 km away, from 301,55 €. For Parque Warner, the stadiums and the hospitals, each destination page calculates the price from each town. The AVE is the natural choice for anyone travelling alone, light and back by day; a car with a driver suits trade-fair equipment, a family with children, a patient with a companion or a small-hours return, with the price fixed before booking.

How does Albacete province reach Madrid, and which destinations are within easy reach?
Albacete is a province that looks in several directions, and Madrid is only one of them, but it is the one with the five destinations in this guide. By road, the capital goes up the A-31 through La Roda to join the A-3 in the Cuenca part of La Mancha, and the A-3 enters Madrid from the east, through Arganda and Rivas. Villarrobledo joins the A-31 by local road and, being in the north-west of the province, is closer to Madrid than the capital itself; Almansa comes up the A-31 through Albacete, and Hellín and Tobarra along the A-30 to Albacete. By train, Albacete-Los Llanos station has high-speed services to Madrid, arriving at Atocha or Chamartín depending on the train, and it is the station for the whole province. The scheduled bus between Albacete and Madrid ends at the Estación Sur at Méndez Álvaro.
Entering on the A-3 has an advantage worth knowing: the motorway crosses the M-40 and M-50 before reaching the city, so IFEMA, the Metropolitano stadium and the northern hospitals can be reached by skirting Madrid to the east without going through the centre, and Parque Warner, to the south-east, is within easy reach via the M-50. The Estación Sur is at the end of the entry route, very close to the A-3. The drawback is distance: from Hellín or Almansa, any of these destinations means a long trip, and coming back the same day means leaving early or returning late. That is why the Los Llanos AVE matters so much in the province, and why a car with a driver comes in mainly when the final destination is far from the train's arrival station, when travelling as a group or when the hour is not a train hour.
How do you get to a trade fair at IFEMA from Albacete, Villarrobledo or Almansa?
For a visitor spending one day at a fair with a briefcase, the AVE to Madrid and the metro to the venue are a comfortable option, especially if the train arrives at Chamartín, which is better placed for the north-east of the city. The province's exhibitors, such as Almansa's footwear firms, the capital's cutlery makers or the wineries of La Manchuela and Villarrobledo, travel with boxes, samples and stand equipment, and there a car that loads at the company door and unloads at the exhibitor entrance avoids platforms, stairs and left-luggage offices. From Villarrobledo to IFEMA it is 210 km, along the A-31 and A-3 to the M-40. On set-up days, which start early, a pre-dawn pickup in the province means arriving on time without sleeping in Madrid the night before.
The return matters even more than the outbound trip. Fairs close in the late afternoon, breakdown on the last day runs late and industry dinners end when the last AVE to Albacete has already gone or is about to. With the pickup set at the hall door for the expected exit time, and adjusted with a message if the day runs on, you go home to sleep without adding a hotel in Madrid. When several colleagues travel, the price is per vehicle and is shared; if the equipment does not fit in a car, a vehicle with more seats is assigned. For companies attending several fairs a year, the business account groups all the trips into a monthly invoice with one line per service, which makes it simpler to justify the costs of attending a fair.
How do you plan a day at Parque Warner with children from Albacete province?
Parque Warner is in San Martín de la Vega, south-east of Madrid, between the A-3 and the A-4, and from the A-3 you link up via the M-50 without entering the city centre. For a family from Albacete or La Roda it is a long day: several hours of road to get there, a whole day of rides and the same road home at night. By train the combination is even harder work, because the AVE drops you in central Madrid and from there you have to head back south with small children, pushchairs and backpacks. In your own car, on top of the distance come the park's paid car park and leaving at closing time, when every visitor goes at once. As there is no published route from each town in the province to the park, the Parque Warner page calculates the price from the pickup address.
Precisely because the return is long, it is the part of the trip where not having to drive is most welcome: the children sleep and the adults rest while someone who has not spent the day at the park drives home. Outbound and return can go in the same booking, with the pickup set for closing time. When booking you give the passengers, the children's ages and heights, because traffic rules require a restraint suited to each minor's height, and whether you have pushchairs, so a vehicle with room is assigned. Two families travelling together share the vehicle price. In high season, during school holidays and at Christmas it is worth booking ahead, because everyone leaves the park within a short time and demand for the return piles up.
How do you get back to Albacete from a concert or match in Madrid?
An evening match at the Bernabéu or the Metropolitano stadium, or a concert at a stadium, at the arena on Avenida de Felipe II or at IFEMA, finishes when the last AVE to Albacete has already gone, and the scheduled bus offers no return at those hours either. The options are sleeping in Madrid, driving your own car in the small hours along the A-3 and A-31 after several hours on your feet, or booking the return in advance. Your own car adds parking around the venue, which gets difficult on event days, and Madrid's low-emission zones, whose conditions by vehicle label the City Council publishes on its website. From La Roda, central Madrid is 217 km away; from Almansa, 326 km, a return trip nobody should make tired in the small hours.
With the return booked, the pickup point is fixed before the event: a specific junction a few streets from the stadium, outside the perimeter closed to traffic, because stopping at the gate is impossible when the crowd comes out. If the match runs on or the concert finishes later, a message is enough to move the time. The price is per vehicle, so four friends from Albacete or Chinchilla share it, and it usually competes with two cars plus parking and fuel. The events page calculates the price from each venue and covers the different stadiums and arenas. For anyone who just wants to go to the concert and come back the next day, the AVE there and a night in a hotel is also a reasonable option: a booked return pays off above all when you want to sleep at home.
When does the bus to the Estación Sur make sense, and when a transfer there?
The scheduled bus between Albacete and Madrid arrives at the Estación Sur at Méndez Álvaro, next to metro line 6 and the commuter trains, and for anyone travelling alone and in no hurry it is the cheapest option. From the towns, however, the first leg to Albacete bus station does not always fit the departure. The Estación Sur is also the terminal for long-distance coaches to other regions and to Portugal, and to connect with one of them the car from home avoids arriving in Madrid by train and crossing the city with your suitcases. From Hellín to the Estación Sur it is 314 km; from Casas-Ibáñez, 272 km, along the A-3 without going through Albacete. In both cases the A-3 entry leaves you very close to Méndez Álvaro.
The opposite case is common too: a relative arriving at the Estación Sur at night or before dawn on a long-distance coach, when there is no AVE or bus to Albacete until the next day. The transfer is booked in their name, with their phone number, and the driver waits at the agreed exit of the station, which has several and is worth specifying; the person paying receives the confirmation and the fixed price. If the coach is late, the pickup is adjusted with a message. If the traveller arrives by train rather than coach, the natural meeting point is Atocha or Chamartín, and if they arrive by plane, the Barajas terminal, with a sign in arrivals. The Estación Sur only makes sense as the start or end of the transfer when the journey begins or ends on a coach.
How do you plan an appointment at a Madrid hospital from Albacete, and what does a car with a driver not cover?
Albacete General Hospital is the province's reference hospital, with its own hospitals in Hellín, Almansa and Villarrobledo, and for some specialities and treatments patients are referred outside the province, with Madrid among the destinations; on top of that come appointments with insurers and private clinics. Entering on the A-3 decides which hospitals are within easy reach: Gregorio Marañón is close to the end of the motorway, on the east side of the centre, while La Paz and Ramón y Cajal, in the north, are reached via the M-40, and 12 de Octubre and the Fundación Jiménez Díaz mean crossing the city. By AVE, a first-thing appointment means leaving before dawn and adding the metro or commuter train from the station. The hospitals page calculates the price from the starting town to the specific hospital.
The transfer is booked as outbound, wait and return, with the wait during the appointment or the pickup time agreed before setting off, and with a margin for the rush-hour entry into Madrid. From Hellín or Almansa, an appointment in Madrid takes up the whole day, and travelling seated in the same car from the front door avoids chaining bus, AVE and metro. A companion does not change the price as long as they fit in the vehicle, and a relative in another city can make the booking with the traveller's phone number. This service is not medical transport: it carries no medical staff or equipment. If the patient needs to travel lying down, with oxygen or under supervision, the transport is prescribed by the doctor and organised by SESCAM. For wheelchairs that do not fold there is the adapted vehicle, booked in advance.
